The End Is the Beginning
The Invention Cycle
- Imagination is envisioning things that do not exist.
- Creativity is applying imagination to address a challenge.
- Innovation is applying creativity to generate unique solutions.
- Entrepreneurship is applying innovation, to bring unique ideas to fruition, inspiring others’ imagination.
Discovery is predicated on curiosity. The more curious you are, the more willing you will be to engage in each new experience. The easiest way to tap into your natural curiosity is by asking questions.
As Henry Ford said, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”
Starting at the beginning of the Invention Cycle, with active engagement and envisioning what might be (imagination), you decide what motivates you and then experiment to come up with solutions (creativity).
そのトリガーとなるのがFocus(本質を絞ること)と、Reframe(見方を変えること)が重要になるとティナ氏は言う。
See how long you can focus on a project without interrupting yourself. Pick a quiet spot and a task you want to accomplish. If you find yourself easily distracted, look for ways to eliminate distractions, one by one. For example, close your computer, shut off your cell phone, and remove from your desk items that draw your attention.
Look at the goals you have for yourself and come up with a list of crazy ways in which you could accomplish them. Figure out how you might make those ideas work in reality.
How high is your “ocean”? How far below the surface are the mountains? Can you identify the specific mountains that are closest to the surface? What are you doing to stay replenished? What more could you do?
Tell or write your life story three times. The first time, focus on all the terrible things that have happened to you. The next time, focus on all the wonderful opportunities you’ve had. And the third time, tell your story as a comedian would, finding the humor in every episode.
